What the Bible actually says
Jesus saved His sternest words for religious leaders — not for what they taught, but for the honor they chased and the burdens they tied onto other people's backs (Matthew 23). The mirror He held up finds deeds done to be seen, best seats sought, titles savored, rules preached but not practiced, and gnat-straining piety that lets justice, mercy, and faithfulness go hungry.
