What the Bible actually says
There are two ways to be at church every Sunday: as a consumer — rating the product, unknown and uncorrectable, joined to nothing — or as a member in the biblical sense: committed to attend, love, serve, and submit to a real local body. The New Testament knows nothing of an unjoined Christian; you are a living stone in a house, a priest in a kingdom of priests, responsible for the health of the people beside you. This check draws on the church-membership writing of 9Marks (9marks.org), including Sam Emadi's 'Kingdom of Priests' and Joel Kurz's 'Ten Ways to Savor Sundays'.
