Separation — the first weeks
Whether you left, were left, or it collapsed from both ends, the first weeks of separation are an earthquake: half the closet gone, the kids' questions, the church pew that suddenly feels like a stage. 'God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way' (Psalm 46:1-2) — written for exactly this ground. If safety drove the separation, it was the right move; let no one rush you back. This path triages the heart while the dust is still in the air.

The house that split
The losses are concrete and daily: the routines, the sounds, the shape of home. Grief now, honestly, beats grief later, sideways.

Telling people
The family, the church, the ring question at work — separation carries a public shame it hasn't earned. Sort what's actually yours to own from what's just exposure.
😞 Shame and Guilt

The kids, the money, the bed
The 3am list is specific: custody, rent, how the children are really doing. Name each fear singly — the pile is what's unbearable, not usually the pieces.

The fresh burn
Whatever led here is days old and still hot. Anger this fresh needs somewhere to go that isn't the group chat or the lawyer's letter — bring it to God first, at full volume.
🔥 Anger and Bitterness

Running on autopilot
Functioning impressively and feeling nothing is shock, not strength. Check the numbness — it has a shelf life, and it's kinder to meet what's under it early.

A refuge that didn't move
A joy check in the rubble: the friend who showed up, the verse that held, the morning that came anyway. The earth gave way; the refuge didn't.
