Making it right
Making it right
The other paths deal with wounds you received; this one deals with a wound you gave — the person you hurt, cheated, lied to, or failed, whose name still lands in your stomach. Jesus put repair ahead of religion: 'Leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift' (Matthew 5:23-24). One boundary holds: their forgiveness is theirs to give, on their timetable — and if your presence would harm them, make what amends you can without imposing it.

The lightness after
A joy check on the clean conscience: the dread that lifts, the name that stops hurting to hear. 'Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy' (Proverbs 28:13).
