A controlling leader, a covered-up wrong, a congregation that took sides, God's name stamped on someone's cruelty — church hurt cuts deeper than ordinary hurt because it reaches toward God Himself. He has seen it before and He takes a side: 'Woe to the shepherds of Israel who have been feeding themselves!... I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep' (Ezekiel 34). Two truths hold this path up: leaving an abusive place can be obedience, not rebellion — and the God whose name was misused is not the one who misused it.
